Fort Wick is the creative
studio of Jen Wick.

I specialize in creating engaging, relevant design systems and editorial solutions for my clients in the arts, publishing, education and nonprofit industries from my studio in NE Portland.

I’ve been in love with the craft of design since I was a teenager, when I started cutting, pasting, and distributing my first zines. I learned volumes while working on the production end of the design industry, working in copy shops and printing businesses, and have served as art director and senior designer for newspapers and publishing companies.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve helped bring countless publications to life, and have created, commissioned and directed just as many illustrations, photo shoots, events, and marketing packages. I’ve also had the chance to fine-tune my collaborative process, and the opportunity to grow and evolve alongside my clients. I help them to better understand their own unique vision by building relationships and approaching every collaboration as a process of discovery, bringing content and information to life, and creating real and relatable visual identities together.

I seek out work that is both fun and meaningful, creative and collaborative—work that informs and delights. I thrive working on projects that lead to lasting relationships and promote growth in my own practice as well as my clients’.

How We Work/Our Studio Manifesto

The process is the solution.

When the outcome drives the process, we will only ever go where we’ve already been. If process drives outcome, we may not know where we’re going, but we know we want to be there.

I learn as I go.

I may not know all the answers, but I communicate, clarify, and collaborate so that we can come up with solutions together.

Who I’m working for is important.

I don’t lose sight of what the work is for, who it’s for or the ideas and values it represents.

Busy does not equal valuable nor important.

The quality of your experiences is more important than the quantity.

I invest in people.

I enjoy working on the art of relationship, and becoming an ally for the clients that I believe in, helping them achieve clarity and bring vision into being. I believe in true communication and honesty with open-hearted clarity.

I keep my priorities in mind.

The most important things are loving kindness, an honest ego, flexibility, autonomy, a healthy body, healthy relationships, and a sense of humor.
